Moldcell Case Study: Optimizing Telecom Network Inventory with NetStork

The Need for Digital Transformation in Telecom Infrastructure

The telecommunications industry is undergoing digital transformation, where efficient network infrastructure management is critical to success. Operators managing complex fiber-optic networks, including fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks, need dedicated solutions for inventory, documentation, and planning.

In this context, Moldcell decided to implement NetStork, a specialized application for telecommunication network inventory and design by Globema. The goal was to optimize infrastructure management and overcome the limitations of previously used tools.

ABOUT MOLDCELL

Founded in 2000, Moldcell is a mobile and internet service provider in the Republic of Moldova. It offers phones, plans, smart home services, 5G, fiber, TV, and more.

Moldcell’s Challenge: Overcoming Fragmented Network Data

Prior to NetStork implementation, Moldcell relied on a combination of generic tools:

  • Google Earth for geographic visualization;
  • Excel spreadsheets for network inventory;
  • Visio diagrams for network schematics.

This fragmented approach resulted in limited visibility of the network, data inconsistencies, inventory errors, and timeconsuming planning and maintenance processes.

The NetStork Solution: Centralized Fiber-Optic Network Inventory

NetStork is a dedicated application for inventorying and visually mapping communication networks. It focuses on fiber optic technologies, including FTTH. By adopting NetStorkMoldcell centralized all network-related information into a single, reliable Network Inventory platform.

NetStork Implementation

The implementation of NetStork was carried out in several stages to ensure efficient integration with the company’s existing operational infrastructure.

The first stage involved migrating and consolidating existing data from multiple sources, including Excel files, Visio diagrams, and internal databases. This process involved verifying and validating the information to ensure the accuracy of the data introduced into the new system.

Subsequently, the network information structure was standardized by defining clear rules for introducing and organizing data on equipment, fiber routes, and interconnection points.

Key Benefits of NetStork for Moldcell’s Network

NetStork brought multiple operational and strategic benefits for the company.

One of the most important results was the creation of a centralized, up-to-date visualization of the entire network infrastructure. This allows technical teams to quickly access the information necessary for network management and maintenance.

Furthermore, data centralization greatly reduced inventory errors, since all infrastructure changes are recorded in a single system and updated in real time.

Another major advantage is the optimization of network maintenance and expansion processes. Work planning can now be carried out based on precise, comprehensive information about the existing infrastructure.

Conclusion: Future-Proofing Moldcell’s Telecom Infrastructure

The implementation of the NetStork application was an important step in Moldcell’s digitalization and in the modernization of the company’s communication infrastructure management processes.

This initiative demonstrates the importance of adopting specialized software solutions amid the increasing complexity of telecom infrastructures and highlights the role of technology in supporting the development of modern communication services.
